Every piece is designed and made for one space. If you are not sure what you want yet, Richard will talk it through and give honest advice before anything is cut.

Fitted wardrobes & bedroom furniture
Floor to ceiling wardrobes in solid and veneered oak or painted shaker, built into alcoves, under sloping ceilings and around old beams. Made to match the furniture you already have when that matters.

Under-stairs storage
Dead space turned into cupboards, drawers and shelving. Push to open drawers, solid oak shelves, sapele trim and lighting built in, all cut to the exact rake of your stairs.

Alcove units & floating shelves
Cupboards with oak tops either side of the chimney breast, and floating shelves in oak veneer with a solid oak lipping, finished with a custom mix of oil.

Wall to wall bookcases with cupboards below, and glazed display cabinets with glass shelves set into the wall.

Media walls and units built around your television, speakers and cables, so the room looks finished rather than wired.

New joinery that looks like it was always there.
Period hallways, old beams, furniture you already love. Richard makes new pieces to sit alongside them: oak wardrobes manufactured to match existing furniture and fitted into an alcove, or a European oak entrance door made to the client’s own specification.

One maker, from first visit to final fitting.
Longstaffs is Richard Longstaff, a furniture and cabinet maker working from his workshop at Lloyds Court in Darlington. He designs, makes and fits every piece himself, for homes and for businesses.
Some customers have been coming back to him for well over a decade. They talk about the same things: the finish, the honest advice, and being kept informed from the first conversation to installation.

Longstaffs did a brilliant job for us building some kitchen shelving. Whole process from initial contact to installation was excellent - Richard was great, kept us informed, took on board any queries etc. Highly recommend his services. And best of all (for us!) we now have a great shelving unit (replacing some tired Ikea cubes!) which is bespoke, looks great and does the job perfectly.
